大学卒業後、基礎研究の領域（病理学、免疫学）に入り、特に個体の特徴を示すヒト白血球抗原（HLA）の日本人における体系の確立、HLAと疾患感受性との関連について研究する。その後アメリカに渡り、ボストンに2年、ニューヨークに5年滞在しながら、彼の地における研究の現状ならびにアメリカ文化についての知見を広げる。

帰国後は大学で病理学の教育と免疫学の研究を進める。1989年からは研究所において、免疫担当細胞が外の情報をどのように細胞内に取り込み、自らの状態をコントロールしているのかという問題を中心に研究する。これらの研究は研究室に集った仲間の協力によるところが大きいのは言うまでもないが、内外の多くの研究者の知己を得てやり遂げることができたことも付け加えたい。この間、いくつかの大学での講義を通して、若い世代に話しかける機会を持つ。

研究生活を続ける中で、それまで行ってきた科学活動の意味と人間存在についての省察に対する渇望に気付き、2007年に哲学を学ぶことを決意する。われわれの未来に対してどのような貢献ができるのかを探りながら、この活動を続けたいと考えている。

2007年秋からパリ第一大学で学ぶため、パリに移住。

Après avoir gradué de l'université, je me suis dirigé vers la recherche fondamentale dans le domaine de la pathologie expérimentale et l'immunologie. Après trois ans d'étude sur l'HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen; complexe majeur d'histocompatibilité: le signe de l'individualité immunologique) et sa relation avec la susceptibilité à la maladie, je suis allé aux États-Uunis pour mieux développer un projet de recherche (le côté professionnel) et pour voir le monde occidental (le côté personnel), d'abord à Boston (2 ans) et à New York (5 ans).

De retour au Japon, j'ai travaillé à l'université dans le domaine de la pathologie avant de prendre une position de chef du département dans un institut de recherche en 1989. Là, j'ai passé environ 18 ans en travaillant sur le mécanisme de l'activation et la signalisation intracellulaire des cellules immunitaires. J'étais aussi professeur invité dans plusieurs universités au Japon pour enseigner l'immunologie à la nouvelle génération. En 2007, j'ai finalement décidé d'étudier la philosophie pour comprendre d'une manière profonde le sens de l'activité scientifique et de l'existence humaine. Ce faisant, j'espère contribuer à notre futur dans toute la mesure de mes capacités.

À partir de septembre 2007, je vis à Paris pour étudier à l'Université Paris 1.

Having graduated from the university, I proceeded to basic research in the field of experimental pathology and immunology. After three years of graduate study on the HLA (Human LeukocyteAntigen: a sign of immunological individuality) and its relationship with susceptibility to disease, I went to the United States to develop a better research project and to see the Western world, first in Boston for 2 years and then in New York City for 5 years.

Back in Japan, I started teaching pathology and continued to work on imunology at a university before taking up a position as head of the department at a research institute in 1989. There, I spent about 18 years working on the mechanism of activation and intracellular signaling in the immune cells. I was also a visiting professor at several universities in Japan to teach immunology to the new generations. In 2007, I finally decided to study philosophy to understand the meaning of scientific activity and human existence. In doing so, I would like to contribute in any way that I can to our future.

In September 2007, I moved to Paris to study at the University of Paris 1.
